Small-Group Food Tours in Japan, Georgia & Peru

WELCOME TO EATING ADVENTURES – We believe the best way to experience a place is through its food.

We are Sue Dempsey and Janice Kirkwood, and we personally host small-group food and wine tours in the places we love – Tokyo in Japan, The Republic of Georgia, Lima in Peru.

Our food-focused holidays are designed for people like us who don’t usually do tours. They are built around all the things we look for in a great holiday – wonderful restaurants, exceptional ingredients, fascinating places and plenty of interesting conversation.

We’ve spent years eating our way around Tokyo, Georgia and Lima, finding the places we love and getting to know the people behind the food. Now we want to share them with you.

Our itineraries include a nosy around food markets, a cooking class, a wine tasting with the actual winemaker, the chance to chat with locals, some history and sightseeing but heaps of free time too. Nothing too touristy. 

Whether it’s khinkali dumplings in Tbilisi, ceviche in Lima, or sushi in a noisy Tokyo izakaya, we’ll take you where locals actually eat, with a healthy dose of fun thrown in.

Our tours are friendly, relaxed and deliberately small, with just 6–8 guests. They’re perfect for solo travellers and couples – and if you can rustle up a group of friends, we can tailor a private tour just for you. And yes, there will be plenty of eating.

• We have great relationships with the people we visit – restaurants, winemakers, food producers and local hosts know us, and we know them. It means you get a much more personal experience.
• No large busloads. No anonymous groups. No shared rooms – just a small group of like-minded people, travelling well and eating very well.
• Most meals are included – as are all tips for local guides and restaurants

 EATING TOKYO – Yakitori, Sake and Omakase

Sushi at the counter with the master, yakitori and a cold beer, a seafood izakaya, Wagyu beef and our latest restaurant finds.

We’ll wander through quiet neighbourhoods and backstreets, visit the markets and shops we love, duck into sake bars and eat in some of our favourite restaurants.

We’ll show you the Tokyo that keeps us coming back year after year.

EATING GEORGIA – Khinkali, vineyards and a convent dinner

Come hungry for a food and wine adventure through the Caucasus.

We’ll eat our way through Tbilisi and out into the regions – mtsvadi and khachapuri, busy markets and long vineyard dinners. We’ll meet Georgian winemakers and food growers, dine with nuns at a convent, and learn what’s on your plate and in your glass.

EATING GEORGIA – SHARED LANDS – Cultures,  communities and food

Shared Lands takes you to parts of Georgia few visitors see.

We’ll spend time with communities who have made these places home for generations – including the Kists of Pankisi, the Udi people of Zinobiani and the Doukhobors of Gorelovka.

We’ll learn how these different cultures have shaped the food and character of Georgia.

EATING LIMA – Ceviche, Pisco and Nikkei

Start with the freshest ceviche, then try Creole and Japanese-Peruvian Nikkei cooking, become a chocolate expert, and learn to shake a proper Pisco Sour.

Lima is one of the great food cities, and we’ll show you why – from neighbourhood favourites to some of the restaurants that have put Lima firmly on the culinary map.
